- had a standing reservation for two every Friday night at the elegant restaurant. Pierre, the maitre d’, seated him (always at the same table), and the wine steward brought a bottle of champagne in a silver bucket, but did not open it immediately. The man ordered an Absolut while he waited, but after an hour, he asked to have the champagne uncorked. The unmistakable popping sound, full of anticipation and celebration, did not seem appropriate for the table that was missing one celebrant…

- tenía una reserva fija para dos los viernes por la noche en el distinguido restaurante. Pierre, el maître, le acompañó a tomar asiento (siempre en la misma mesa), y el sumiller trajo una botella de champán en un cubo de plata, pero no la abrió inmediatamente. El hombre pidió un Absolut mientras esperaba, y al cabo de una hora pidió descorchar el champán. El inconfundible estallido, lleno de ilusión y celebración, no pareció apropiado para una mesa a la que faltaba un celebrante…
